Vibroacoustic Massage with Tibetan Singing Bowl

May qualified as a 'Vibroacoustic Massage with Tibetan Singing Bowl' therapist using the 'Contact Striking Method' on 12 March 2017, under the training of Viktor Oguy and certified by the Vibroacoutic Therapy Association UK. This unique massage originates from the Tsering Ngodrub Tibetan tradition, and Viktor Oguy learnt with his teachers Dr. Nida Chenagtsang (Traditiona Tibetan Medicine) and Pema Rinpoche Rangdrol (Tibetan Buddhism).

The 'Contact Striking Method' is considered a massage technique utilising vibrations created from striking the Tibetan Singing Bowl that is placed directly on to the body to create a state of deep relaxation. The human body is partly 50-65% water, so sound waves, vibrations or frequencies are able to travel through easier than air and are believed to affect us in different ways.

In a reseach study conducted by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) comparing effectiveness of Vibroacoustic to laser or ultrasound therapy, they found positive pain reduction in musculoskeletal overload conditions for those using Vibroacoustic Wave Therapy. (Evaluation of effectiveness of vibroacoustic therapy treatment of patients with so-called "heel spur", 2013)

As our brains work in different frequencies of biorhythms, it is often within a highly attentive stressful Beta state that needs deep relaxation to be induced through yoga, vibroacoustic therapy or other ways in order to reach a peaceful meditative trance-like Delta state. According to the article "7 Health Benefits of Vibroacoustic (Sound & Vibration) Therapy" when stressful cortisol levels fall and our body, brain and mind returns to a state of calm relaxation, certain health benefits may occur:

1. The Limbic System returns to a calm state, that gradually over time helps the body improve self-regulation.

2. The Relaxation Response activates, creating positive physical and emotional health benefits.

3. The heart rate slows and heart rate variability (HRV) improves, which indicates stress resilience.

4. Blood pressure lowers, reducing the risk of stroke and heart attack.

5. Muscles relax, which in turn can reduce pain from tension and spasms.

6. Pain lessens through a combination of deeper relaxation and an increase of happy hormones.

7. Circulation increases, nourishing the cells and organs.

Since ancient times the Tibetan singing bowl has been an important ritualistic item used in secret personal Buddhist practices by lamas, who received the practice from their Gurus on a one-to-one basis and had to keep to lineage rules that kept the practice secret. Tibetan singing bowls were believed to have mystical spiritual powers to connect different realms, affect auras, chakras, energy flow, states of consciousness and emotions, used in practices to improve health, and some even argue it originated from early shamanistic Tibetan Bon tradition.

May was attracted to the Tibetan singing bowl because of her own Buddhist Vajrayana practice and exploration of relaxation through teaching yoga. Learning Vajrayana practices for over 20 years since the age of 16, she received initiation empowerment for chanting mantra and meditation practices from her Guru Grandmaster Sheng Yen Lu. She feels an affinity to the compassionate Tibetan Buddhist Goddess Tara, who she considers her spiritual guardian and often prays for Tara to bless that all May's wellbeing work may be auspicious to sentient beings. So May's Tibetan Singing Bowl Massage sessions tend to feel deeply spiritual and relaxing, involving the soothing use of mantra chanting and mindful intention setting.

May's clients have found the Tibetan Singing Bowl Massages helpful in improving conditions and wellbeing such as:

  • Increase flow of energy, restore balance and release blocks from their Chakras

  • Release tiredness, soreness or tension held in muscle

  • Opening up more to spiritual growth and work with specific chakras or internal shadows

  • Release difficult emotions, memories, attachments, patterns or past trauma

  • Resolve difficulties in sleeping and create more relaxation in their life

  • Find soulful healing through spiritual and vibrational work

The vibrations and sound frequencies of the Tibetan Singing Bowl often creates a deeply relaxed feeling of being held, whilst encouraging flow of the Lymphatic system to help the body get rid of toxins, and works across the mystical Chakras of different emotional expressions as well as areas of life. With increasingly stressful modern times, holistic and natural complementary therapy such as Tibetan Singing Bowl Massage can be a non-intrusive and effective way of restoring wellbeing.

Tibetan Singing Bowl Massage is a 1-2-1 session that includes 55 minutes of vibrational massage with time before and after session to discuss how client may be feeling or what issues have arised during session. Clients remain fully dressed in clothing (ideally of natural fiber without metal or buttons) throughout the session which can take up to 90 minutes.

Sessions can be booked in 2 ways:

a) {IN}: May's home in Woolwich (London SE18): £35 per session and if booking a block of 3 sessions together the discounted offer total is £100.

b) {OUT}: At client's home/office where May will travel to you: £45 per session and if booking a block of 3 sessions together the discounted offer total is £130. (Please Note: As May relies on public transport, there are locations that she is unable to cover and will have to decline a booking in those circumstances.)

Please book with May directly via email or use our booking page

It is suggested that clients should take some time to rest after working with vibrations and frequency of the Tibetan Singing Bowl, as it may impact clients physical, emotional or spiritual state by bringing what needs to be explored or healed into conscious awareness throughout the week.

As a complementary therapy method the Tibetan Singing Bowl Massage does NOT replace the need for medical attention or medication, and depending on the needs of a client's condition the number of recommended sessions can vary from 1 to 8 sessions.

"I felt the effect of singing bowl session much more in the second session compared with the first one. Perhaps it was because I knew what would happen after the first one In the second session, I could really feel the benefit and greatness of singing bowl therapy.

The vibration and sounds from the bowl, at first felt quite foreign and recognisable, soon became unnoticeable, as my body started to resonate with them and as I went deeper into relaxation. All the physical and mental blockages were unblocked. Suddenly everything began to flow so smoothly and naturally. The one-hour long session passed so quickly, while I was deep into relaxation and enjoying letting my body circulation, energy, and my own vibe flow as they should.

The tiredness I felt soon after the end of the session was soon replaced with warmness and calmness in my body and mind. Singing bowl therapy worked well for me to relax and improve the flow of my energy and body circulation."
